Meet Our Staff
David Cataneo
I was very happy to join the OWL team in spring 2008 and became director in spring 2009. I am a native New Yorker and a magna cum laude graduate of Boston University's School of Public Communication. My degree is in journalism, and I worked for 22 years for the Boston Globe and Boston Herald as a reporter, columnist, and editor. I am the author of six non-fiction books. I have also written a novel which I have placed with a New York agent. I have conducted many writing workshops at schools throughout New England, and in fall 2007 I taught a graduate level writing course on-line at Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Mass. I currently work with students at the University of New Hampshire as a writing consultant at the Connors Writing Center. In spring 2009, I taught UNH's first-ever sports journalism class. I live in Durham, NH, with my family.

Tanya Nading
I recently moved to Dover from College Station, Texas, where I was working as a communications specialist for the Department of Health and Kinesiology at Texas A&M University, and I have fallen in love with New England. I have two degrees from Texas A&M: a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a master's degree in Science and Technology Journalism (with a focus in biomedical/health writing). I am currently a first-year MFA student studying fiction writing, which is my passion. I am excited to be a part of the UNH OWL team. You can also find me helping at the Connors Writing Center where I am a graduate writing assistant. When not immersed in school work, I love to write, read, cook, hang out with friends, and sleep.

Travis Taylor
I am currently a graduate student in the MFA Fiction program at UNH. I recently moved to New Hampshire from Michigan, where I worked as a freelance writer, book reviewer, copyeditor, and copywriter. In addition to my work with the OWL, I am also a writing assistant at the Connors Writing Center and a staff editor for the undergraduate journal, Inquiry. When I’m not poring over the works of others, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our judgmental cat.

Matt Kingston
Fun things I like to do: watch grass grow, eat dirt, play in sandboxes, splash puddles. But when I'm not doing those things, I'm a graduate student at UNH in the MFA Fiction program. Along with working at the OWL, I'm a writing assistant at the Connors Writing Center and a staff editor for the undergraduate research journal, Inquiry. I received my MA in Literature at the University of Maine in the spring of 2008, right before moving to New Hampshire. For my undergraduate career, I attended the University of Washington in Seattle and have a degree in English and Business Administration, with an emphasis in Marketing. I taught Intro to College Composition for two years at the University of Maine and also worked at their Writing Center. Other fun things I enjoy: long walks through junkyards, popsicles, and tire swings.

Laura Waldon
I served as creator and director of the Online Writing Lab from May 2005 to April 2009 and was assistant director of the Connors Writing Center at UNH from January 2005 to June 2006. I enjoy writing essays and magazine pieces, and teaching professionals how to improve their writing skills. Before moving to the East Coast, I worked for four years as a freelance writer and newspaper reporter in Minnesota. I received my bachelor's degree in English and sociology from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, and my MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from UNH, where I also taught English 401. A significant portion of the upper right quadrant of my heart belongs to UNH, which I shall miss dearly as I move on to other teaching and writing endeavors.
